- VERIFY IF YOUR DESKTOP SECURITY SOFTWARE DETECTS POTENTIALLY UNWANTED APPLICATION (PUAs)
To verify if your desktop security software detects Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs), you will be downloading the AMTSO Potentially Unwanted Application test file – a simulated Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
This file is NOT actually malicious, but by an industry-wide agreement this file is detected as if it were malicious (or unwanted) when the option to block PUAs is enabled. This is done so that people may verify that their anti-malware product’s PUA settings are configured correctly. Note that some products may refer to PUAs by other names, such as Possible Unwanted Applications or Potentially Unwanted Software.
If you are able to download this file successfully, your anti-malware solution is NOT configured correctly to detect Potentially Unwanted Applications, or DOES NOT conform to industry best practice.
